Planting Seeds of Curiosity at Point Fermin Elementary
There’s something powerful about watching a child discover the magic of nature—seeing their eyes light up as seeds sprout into something green, alive, and full of possibility.
At Point Fermin Elementary School, that moment is happening every day in a brand-new way.
Thanks to a grant from the San Pedro Education Foundation, students now have access to a thriving garden space at Point Fermin. What was once an underused patch of land has been transformed into an outdoor classroom—one where hands get dirty, curiosity blossoms, and science comes to life.
In this garden, kids aren’t just learning how to grow plants—they’re learning about ecosystems, water cycles, sustainability, and the responsibility of caring for something beyond themselves. They’re asking questions. Making connections. And discovering that learning doesn’t only happen within four walls.
It’s a space where the classroom meets the natural world—and where students of all ages get to experience the joy of growing something from the ground up.
This is exactly the kind of project SPEF is proud to support: hands-on, curiosity-driven, and rooted in the belief that all San Pedro students deserve access to inspiring learning environments.
Together, we’re planting more than vegetables.
We’re planting the seeds of lifelong learning.
