SPHS Girls Flag Football
In 2024, something special happened on the field at San Pedro High School.
For the first time in school history, the girls flag football team started suiting up in brand-new uniforms—thanks to a grant from the San Pedro Education Foundation.
Girls flag football is one of California’s fastest-growing high school sports, and SPHS is embracing the momentum with pride, grit, and a whole lot of talent. But when the program launched, there was one big thing missing: uniforms. The team had heart and hustle—but no gear to match.
That’s where SPEF stepped in.
With funding provided by generous community donors, the San Pedro Education Foundation made sure every player had what she needed to represent her school with confidence—from jerseys and shorts to the pride that comes with putting on your team’s colors.
“We’re incredibly proud to support these athletes,” said Ricky Magana, President of SPEF. “This isn’t just about uniforms—it’s about showing young women that they belong on that field, and their efforts deserve to be seen, celebrated, and supported.”
The impact goes beyond the field. For many of these girls, this is their first time playing on a school sports team. The opportunity builds leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence. It creates memories—and friendships—that will last long after graduation.
